Montgomery AIDS Outreach, Inc. (MAO) is a private,
non-profit, Community Based AIDS Service Organization that was established in
1987. It has transitioned from a
volunteer education and service organization to a full-time primary care
facility. You can access both medical
and social services at our Montgomery
and Dothan
locations, and all of the rural clinics we operate. We also provide HIV education and testing,
and mental health counseling to patients and family members.
Our Mission Statement is “Montgomery AIDS Outreach provides
community prevention education, quality services and compassionate care to
those affected by HIV/ AIDS.
Services provided include: social services, medical treatment, medication assistance, pharmacist
consultations, mental health counseling, patient education, prevention
education, HIV testing, food bank services and interpretation services (Spanish
to English) and hearing impaired.
MAO is funded primarily through federal and state
grants. The Ryan White CARE Act provides
the greatest percentage of the budget.
These funds support the medical and social services provided. State, federal and Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention provide funds for HIV prevention education and HIV
testing/counseling. These funds are
obtained through grant applications.
Other funds are obtained through fundraisers conducted by the agency and
through medical billing.
Confidentiality is of the utmost concern to everyone who
works at MAO. Every person who works or volunteers at MAO and Copeland Care Clinic signs
a confidentiality agreement. MAO is in compliance with all federal privacy
and security regulations (HIPAA). Each new patient is asked to read and sign
the agency’s Notice of Privacy Practices.
